Import Export Code

No export or import shall be made by any person without obtaining an IEC unless specifically exempted. For services exports, however, IEC shall not be necessary except when the service provider is taking benefits under the Foreign Trade Policy.

IEC is required in the following situations

1. When an importer has to clear his shipments from the customs then it’s needed by the customs authorities.
2. When an importer sends money abroad through banks then it’s needed by the bank.
3. When an exporter has to send his shipments then it’s needed by the customs port.
4. When an exporter receives money in foreign currency directly into his bank account then it’s required by the bank.

Documents Required for IE Code Application

1. Photograph of Proprietor/Designated partner/Authorized director
2. Pan Card of Proprietor/Designated partner/Authorized director
3. Copy of Passport (first & last page)/Voter’s I-Card/ Driving Licence/UID (Aadhar card) (any one of these)
4. Sale deed/ rent agreement/ utility bill

Bank Certificate/ Cancelled cheque.
